Reflecto-Foil™ Water Heater Jacket Main Page

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

WATER HEATER JACKET

Please note: Reflecto-Foil™ is not recommended for gas heaters.

1. Place the spacer strips around the tank.  Use three strips evenly spaced, making sure there is one at the top and one at the bottom.  These spacers provide a reflective air space between the tank and the jacket and provide maximum insulation benefits.

2. Wrap the heater with insulation with the 48" vertical dimension.  Cut material to proper length so the ends just meet.  Tape the vertical seam.  If your heater is taller than 48", repeat the above wrapping process on the exposed heater section and tape the seams.

3. Wrap your heater so there is enough insulation extending above the heater to fold over and form a top.  (You will need to leave insulation extending above the heater one-half the diameter of your heater.)  Fold insulation inward and trim away excess.  Trim around the pipes and tape the seams.  ON GAS HEATERS, BE SURE TO ALLOW PLENTY OF SPACE FOR VENTILATION.  (See note on installation.)

4. Trim around pressure valve.  Cut insulation on both sides of the thermostat housing to create a flap-type cover for easy access.

INSTALLATION NOTE:

GAS HEATERS:  Do not cover the gas regulator valve.  Cut an opening in the insulation so the entire valve assembly is open to the air.  Leave at least three inches clearance around the exhaust vent at the top of the heater.

ELECTRIC HEATERS:  Check to be sure your heater is wired to meet local building specifications.

ALL HEATERS:  Review your owner's manual and follow installation instructions they provide for the insulation of your water heater.

DUCT INSULATION KIT

Tools required:  Utility knife, stapler

INSULATE DUCT:

Measure (width + height) x 2 and add 2" (5 cm) to allow for spacer strips and overlap.  Cut required length from Reflecto-Foil™ insulation.  For ease of installation, we recommend that you work with no more than a 4' (122 cm) section at a time.  Wrap spacer strips provided at every 16" (40 cm) around duct and tape in place.  Wrap Reflecto-Foil™ insulation around duct and tape all seams with the foil tape provided.  See diagram below.

MAKE NEW DUCT BETWEEN JOISTS:

Measure width of gap from outside edge of one joist to the outside of the other and cut required length from Reflecto-Foil™ insulation.  Staple material to the joists and tape all joints with the foil tape supplied.  See diagram below.

CAUTION:  DO NOT APPLY REFLECTO-FOIL™ INSULATION DIRECTLY TO FURNACE HEAT EXCHANGER OR EXHAUST CHIMNEY.  MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE FOR MATERIAL IS 180°F OR 82°C.
